Family gave Cancelled Wedding in a 4-Star Hotel to Homeless Families !
After a California couple called off their wedding, the bride-to-be's family decided to turn the $35,000 event into a feast for the homeless. The bride's mother, Kari Duane, said that rather than cancel the reception, they invited Sacramento's homeless for a once in a lifetime meal on Saturday at the Citizen Hotel, one of the city's finest venues.
Mom of the bride Kari Duane found out from her 27-year-old daughter Quinn that the wedding wasn't pushing through over the weekend. The groom got cold feet the NIGHT BEFORE and backed out of the wedding. Duane thought that this could be an opportunity for them to give back to the community.
Families came with their kids who had the chance to experience a full, sumptuous meal. The food consisted of scrumptious appetizers, salmon and sirloin steak. About 90 homeless single people, grandparents and whole families with newborns showed up, some even dressed up for the occasion.
Despite the smiles and full stomachs, the Bride was still in grief and opted to stay at home with her friends. She left the entertaining to her parents. "Even though my husband and I were feeling very sad for our daughter, it was heart warming to see so many people be there and enjoy a meal," Duane said.
The family also made other acts of kindness out of their sadness, by donating the non-refundable wedding flowers to a local nursing home as well.
Part of the wedding price tag includes a non-refundable honeymoon, so the Mother and the Bride will set off for Belize on a much-needed getaway.
